What Is My Piano Worth?

A real and fair appraisal/estimated value is given AFTER a qualified Registered Piano Technician (RPT) visually and audibly and the technician has a "hands-on" evaluation of the condition of your piano. There is no "Blue Book," like with automobiles or "antiques" to help in value of a piano. If you do not wish to hire a qualified piano technician, you may use as a guide, The Piano Book by Larry Fine. Pianos listed with values are only a reference based on surveys and not necessarily accurate. Mechanical condition, name, finish (cosmetics) and size are the basis for piano value. Pianos are not an antique, such as a tiffany lamp or Chippendale writing desk, even though they may be 50-75-100 years old or older. The bottom line is the condition of your piano determines the value.

Consider piano values differently if you have different purposes of knowing the value of your piano.

1. Resale Value sold at Retail Price.
2. "As Is" Value sold at Wholesale Price.
3. "Replacement" Value needed for an Insurance purpose.

You may wish to request all of the values when your hire the qualified piano technician of many years of experience, and preferably a Registered Piano Technician (RPT), a member of a piano technicians’ guild or organization.
